What happens to the lips as we age?
As we age our lips lose collagen and elastin which are the building blocks that keep our skin voluminous, soft and supple. Lips can become thinner and flatter looking, and they may look dehydrated, with lines appearing on and around the lips as a result of the ageing process.
These changes may start to happen in our mid thirties and can contribute to how we feel about the way we look.
Replacing lip volume
If you are finding that your lips are thin and less plump than they used to be, lip filler treatment can help to restore the volume to your lips. We can replace the lost volume so that your lips resemble what they used to look like, and so that your lips still look very natural.
We can also use lip filler to smooth out lines on the lips or around the mouth that may have appeared due to ageing or smoking. Lip filler is made of hyaluronic acid which is a substance that occurs naturally in our bodies. Hyaluronic acid attracts water, so you will find that after a lip filler treatment your lips will not only be restored to their original size, but the skin on your lips will look more hydrated.

Lip filler treatment is not just for ageing lips. For example, sometimes we see patients whose lips are naturally very thin or whose lips look unbalanced. We can use lip filler to rectify these concerns, again with very natural looking results.
Some patients however do want to add more volume to otherwise full lips, and this is something we recognise. As expert medical injectors we make sure to always provide honest and ethical aesthetic care. We assess each patient as an individual and treat patients in their best interest. We can treat patients who already have full lips, but we would never place more lip filler than will look appropriate for a patient.
